Rogelio Villegas, Jr, 74, passed away on June 22, 2020 at UMC in Lubbock, Texas. Roy was the loving husband of Ruth McSorley Villegas. They married on April 18, 1983 in Lubbock, Texas and shared 37 years together. Roy was born in Laredo, Texas to Rogelio Villegas Sr. and Andrea Villegas. Roy was a proud Army Veteran and served our country in Vietnam in 1969. He worked in the cotton industry for over 30 years and retired from United Cotton Growers in 2009.
Roy most enjoyed fishing down south with his family, building, and woodworking. Friday nights were reserved for gathering with buddies at the Martinez’s barn. Roy was a “fix-it” man and was well known for his welding skills. Roy never met a stranger, and he will always be remembered for his kindness and humility.
Roy is survived by his wife, Ruth McSorley-Villegas, his 7 children, Jeremy Ellis (Elisa), Marivel Garcia (Martin), Joshua Ellis, Joseph Ellis, Annabel De Jesus (Lazaro), Vanessa Villegas, and Donna Villegas. Roy was a proud grandpa to 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 8 siblings Rebecca De La Fuente (Robert), Minerva Luna (Pedro), Emma Lopez (Juan), Rosario Estorga (Tony), Ruben Villegas, Rudico Villegas, Rene Villegas, and Romeo Villegas (Lesa). Roy was also a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Roel Villegas, Raquel Arriaga, Pedro Villegas, Sr, and Yolanda Carrillo.
Visitation will be held at Guajardo Funeral Chapels in Lubbock, Texas on June 29, 2020 from 5pm-7pm with Rosary following. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 10am at Guajardo Funeral Chapels with burial to follow at Smyer Cemetery in Smyer,Texas.
